Five Georgia Coffee Roasters To Try

"On taking this drink one feels the sentiment of well being and hope; melancholy is dissipated; one feels capable of doing, because of a condition of strength. Coffee is truly a brain stimulant."

~ Voltaire

I am no where near Voltaire’s obsession with coffee (I honestly don’t even come close to my husband’s), but I certainly appreciate a well roasted bean. Over the years, I have found many delicious coffee roasters in Georgia. But there are a few I will detour for if I am within a 20 mile radius. Most beans taste great when expertly crafted into a latte, but this selection tastes just as delightful when made at home.

Valor Coffee

in Dunwoody, Georgia

Cool cafe aside, the coffee is delicious and takes the number one spot on my list. Valor beans are always on hand at home and the Freethrow roast is my daily go-to. Warm, rich, flavorful and exactly what I imagine coffee should be. My husband gives them bonus points for hosting his favorite coffee podcast. As for me, I just love the taste.

Grassroots Coffee

in Thomasville, Georgia

One thing I love to do when I travel for work is explore the local communities. Thomasville impressed me on many levels, being home to Grassroots Coffee (whose beans I had tried in other places before) was one more reason I love this cute, historic town. Their Beam Me Up Scotty roast is a winner in my house.

Alma Coffee

in Canton, Georgia

Discovered on another work trip, Alma Coffee really blew me away. The farm-to-cup model is compelling, especially when the result is so tasty. Owned and operated by fifth generation Honduran coffee farmers, the love is evident in every cup. They have many roasts to choose from, our favorite so far is Belen Gualcho, but really you can’t go wrong with Alma.

Wake Up Coffee

in Saint Simons, Georgia

I’m in Saint Simons every spring for work and am so grateful I discovered Wake Up Coffee the first time I was there. When I’m in town, their cafe is my morning spot to orient before each work day. The toasty, rich notes are aromatic, delicious, and incredibly cozy. And I love that the roast tastes just as good as it smells and holds up in the home environment. Bringing a bag or two home each year is a must.

Radio Roasters

in Decatur, Georgia

First discovered for being across the street from my beloved Kudzu Antiques, Radio Roasters is tucked away in a quieter area. Primarily a roaster, my visits typically consist of grabbing a pound of beans on my way home from the antique or farmer’s markets. They offer less of a cafe and more of a tasting bar, as they say. The beans are always delicious, varying in boldness but consistent in quality. We typically go for one of their limited edition roasts, but there are no bad choices here.

There are so many more amazing cafes and roasters in Georgia. Let me know your favorite from this list or an outstanding roaster I need to visit. Cheers to the perfect cup.
