Ten (More) Magical Georgia Bookshops

I just cannot get enough! Bookshops are my happy place. Since publishing the first list of magical Georgia bookshops, I started a new position at Georgia CASA. Part of my role requires traveling all over the state. This has brought many new bookshops into my path, and I am so excited to share them with you. I hope you will enjoy adding these to your route!

The Book Cellar

951 railroad st, conyers, GA 30012

Being inside of a house is only one of the ways this delightful bookshop exudes homey vibes. The Book Cellar offers many spaces designed to cultivate community, creativity, and comfort. From the reading nooks to the cafe, this store invites visitors to make themselves at home from the moment one sets foot in the door. And really, I didn’t want to leave. The selection of books is interesting and by the time I finally took my leave, it was with my arms full of treasures.

Righton Books

222 Redfern Village, St Simons island, GA 31522

I happened upon this delightful bookshop while on a work trip, and I couldn’t be more grateful. As soon as I walked into this inviting shop, I resolved to create a second list so I could share it with my readers! I think my favorite thing about Righton Books was the balance of bestsellers with obscure gems. I am always looking for what sits on the shelves between the new releases, and this spot did not disappoint.

Brave + Kind Books

722 W College ave, decatur, ga 30030

From the moment I walked in the door, I was dazzled by this quaint book shop. Immediately, my mind was plotting to bring my nephews here on their next Atlanta visit. While there is a little adult corner, this shop is created with kids in mind. And though I have many nephews I often gift books to, when I left Brave + Kind, I had purchased items for myself. I found that the book selection and craft offerings called to my inner child. This store was well equipped to help me expand my children’s book collection, but I left this delightful spot with a sticker book and a smile.

Bear’s Books

835 Forsyth Street, Macon, GA 31201

Another reason I wanted to create a second list. Bear’s Books opened in my hometown of Macon two years ago and has brought such a ray of sunshine to the downtown community. The owner Margaret is passionate about creating a space for readers and writers to connect. She hosts author talks, panels, and reading groups and she uses her space to feature local artists and bring in creatives of all kinds. I particularly love her selection of books on writing. I picked up Eudora Welty’s memoir on writing here and it has served as inspiration for me since.

Hullabaloo Books

87B N Main street, clayton, ga 30525

Being in the lower level of Wander North Georgia, it is a place my husband and I can respectively spend the better part of an afternoon. I was delighted to stumble upon this whimsical spot, with a particular inclination towards nature writing, local interest, outdoor guides, and children’s books. Even if you would not call yourself an outdoorsman (like my hiker husband), there are plenty of delightful reads for the rest of us. I enjoyed reading Pilgrim at Tinker Creek comfortably from my back porch.

Pretty Good Books

118 Church St, LaGrange, ga 30240

Any book shop with a library ladder is making the list. Pretty Good Books in LaGrange brings the charm. From the wall of library cards and the resident black cat, to the creaky floors and vintage book section, this spot pulled me in around every corner. Each room was packed floor to ceiling with books; I could have stayed for hours.

The Underground Bookshop

102 Alabama st, Carrollton, Ga 30117

I was in here way too long, but I could have stayed longer. The more I looked through the shelves, the more I noticed titles I didn’t see previously. It offered a great selection and I discovered reads I didn’t know I needed in my life. The notes from the staff were helpful when considering a new read, and many were entertaining in itself. And the book arch! Believe you me, I tried to get a photo beneath it, but the store was too bustling to do such a thing without an audience. C’est la vie.

Hemlock Bazaar

131 N Main street, elijay, GA 30540

On a recent visit to Elijay, I wandered into Hemlock Bazaar searching for coffee, and stumbled upon this fun, nostalgic book shop attached. Here, I can sip a latte and peruse books, records, and quirky stickers… what more could a girl want? A hidden gem that brought joy into an unsuspecting Saturday morning.

Village Books

213 Mitchell Street sw, atlanta, GA 30303

For those days when I am at my office in Downtown Atlanta, I love taking a lunchtime walk through the bustling streets of the city. One of my walks brought delight and surprise when a new bookshop opened next door to my favorite walkable coffee shop. Upon immediately going in, I realized it had everything one looks for in a book shop. Friendly and helpful staff, easy to navigate organization, historic touches in the design and decor, and a great mix of popular and unique selections. Village Books is more than I could hoped for and now a frequent destination on my weekly walks.

The Reading Attic

21 W Park Square, Marietta, GA 30060

Right off of Marietta Square, this sweet yellow door leads you up and into something truly special. I just love when exploring a bookshop is like wondering through a house, full of rooms and nooks. The Reading Attic is perfect for a rainy afternoon visit or even just a quick pop in between meetings (as I have done a time or two.) They also are intentional about cultivating community, hosting a monthly book club and a writers group meet up.

There are still some Georgia book shops on my list that my travels have yet to take me near, but I am holding out hope I will find my way there soon. You know when I do, I will share them with you! May you find joy, a friend, and your next favorite book in a local book store. Cheers!
