Building Community with Colleagues

If you work in an office environment, you’ve been there. The ice breaker to open a meeting. Answering questions like “what’s your favorite ice cream flavor?” and immediately forgetting everyone else’s response because you were internally debating between cookie dough and moose tracks. And although the heart behind efforts like this is to help colleagues bring their full selves to the work space and connect with one another beyond projects and meetings, inevitably, they often miss their mark.

Back To The Office - One Year Review

Almost three years ago, I transitioned to a new organization and, you guessed it, I now have the option of working remote as needed. I love being able to choose a late morning (7:30), wear slippers all day, or take a walk around the block on my lunch break. There have been plenty of in-person trainings and events to build relationships with colleagues. My role includes travel, so I still get out of the house during the week to go in the field. All in all, my fully-remote days have been a delight.
